Paypal is a global payment service; meaning, you can send and receive money from anywhere in the world via Paypal. Paypal, however, restricts its services in some regions like Nigeria.

The company offers services to consumers and merchants that allow them to send and receive payments online. Consumers can use PayPal as an electronic wallet to pay for goods or services on the Internet, using an email address or mobile phone number as their username (ID) and password (PW).

Paypal services are available in Nigeria, but you can’t receive money from them. This article is for you to know how to withdraw your PayPal funds to your bank account.

Types of PayPal Accounts

First, you have to know the kind of account you can open on PayPal. The type of account you open determines what you can do with the account. It determines if you will be able to accept payment or only send and purchase products with it.

Personal Account

The Personal account allows you to shop in your own country and worldwide from your computer or mobile device, all without disclosing your financial information to the sellers. This is the only type of account available in Nigeria.

How to Open a Paypal Account that Receives Money in Nigeria

To open a PayPal account in Nigeria, follow these steps thoroughly. First, if you type Paypal.com in your web browser from Nigeria, you will be redirected to paypal.com/ng. The ng sub-domain indicates the user is from Nigeria. Here, you will find out that you can only open a personal account, and no business account is available for Nigerians.

The only PayPal account that can receive payment globally is the business account.

To open a PayPal business account in Nigeria, follow these steps.

Visit PayPal.com/ls

You can also choose other countries that accept PayPal, like Paypal.com/uk. But for this tutorial, we are opening a Lesotho PayPal account.

Create a Business account

From the Lesotho homepage, click on Sign Up from the top bar, choose Business Account, and click Continue.

Enter Your Email and Password

On the next page, enter your email address and click on Continue. The following page will also ask for your password, enter it, and click continue.

Enter your business details

Next, you will enter all the details about your company. Don’t forget you are creating a business account. The information you will be requesting includes;
Business Contact: Enter your First and Last Name.
Business Name: The name of your business.
Business Phone Number: Enter your Nigeria Phone number here.
Business Address: You can enter your Nigeria Address.
Primary Currency: Choose your preferred Currency.
Click on Agree and Continue.

Describe your Business

Here, you are asked to describe your business. The information you will feel includes your business type, product or service keywords, and your business URL (optional).

Tell Us More About You

Paypal is asking for more information about you on this page, including your date of birth and home address. If your home address is the same as your business address, you can click on the box that says the same as your business address. When you are done, click submit.

That’s all to create your active PayPal account in Nigeria. When you are done with everything, you should be taken to a welcome page that shows you all your account features.

• UBA Africard
• VISA card (Access VISA card)

The most recommended method is to get a UBA Africard, also called a UBA prepaid card. Most people will tell you this is the only method, but I withdraw my PayPal funds using my Access Bank VISA debit card. I have not tried this with any other bank, but you can withdraw your funds using your Access debit card (VISA) if you have an Access bank account.
